Khammam: CPM condemns withdrawal of domestic LPG subsidy

Khammam: District CPM leaders condemned the Centre’s decision to sell LPG cylinders at market price to domestic users and to limit LPG subsidies only to beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme.

In a statement here on Saturday, party leader P Sudharshan said the Centre’s decision would have an impact and impose a financial burden on around 21 million consumers. He asked the Center to withdraw its decision immediately.

Shortly after coming to power in 2014, the Modi government lifted control over petroleum products in favor of private companies. Later, the government, which gradually reduced the subsidy, has now withdrawn it entirely, he complained. It was irresponsible to withdraw the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders at a time when inflation was reaching 8%. There were about 30 million LPG users in the country and limiting subsidies to nine million Ujwala beneficiaries was a mistake, Sudharshan said. He called on the party ranks and the public to fight against the reinstatement of the subsidy and asked the state government to pressure the Center in this regard.
