Delhi Electricity Subsidy: Online and Offline Options to Apply or Unsubscribe


Consumers here will have online and offline options to opt in or out of the electricity subsidy provided by the Delhi government on monthly consumption of up to 400 units of electricity, officials said, PTI reported.

Since a majority of more than 80% of consumers pay their electricity bill online, there will be usual platforms of discom portals and applications to register to join the subsidy program or not. , said an official with the electricity department.

However, those who do not use the online mode will be free to do so by filling in forms and submitting them to Discom offices, the official said.

Terms and conditions for enrolling consumers in the subsidy are expected to be finalized by the end of the month.

Last week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that only consumers would benefit from an electricity subsidy who specifically opted into the scheme from October 1. Kejriwal said the move will ensure the program benefits people who need it.

Domestic consumers receive subsidies in two forms. Consumers who use up to 200 units per month receive a 100% exemption (there are currently 3,039,766 such consumers. Consumers who use 201 to 400 units receive up to 800 in subsidy (there are 1,659,976 of these consumers).
